Gabriele Vangelli

Gabriele Vangelli de Cresci (Rome 1989), comes from an ancient and wellknown family of collectors, engravers and medalists of the Istituto Poligrafico and Zecca dello Stato. He graduated from the Roma Tre University, specializing in Glyptics and in Greek-Roman and Renaissance goldsmithing. Scholar and collector of Ancient and Neoclassical art, he has deepened the refined art of engraving hard stone (carvings and cameos). He combines his scientific activity of research and cataloging - also carried out as curator of the Museum of the Ancient Mint of Lucca and of private European collections. He also directed for 4 years as expert a department of Glyptics between Rome and London for an auction house. His last book, A MINIMA AD MAXIMA, published in 2019, Campisano, presents a complex mix of Italian and French artistic history, born in the glorious setting of the Grand Tour and still in vogue during the Napoleonic era, following the story of a recently discovered and unpublished Lucca-based manufacture, specialized in the refined art of making impressions taken from engraved gems, cameos, medals and small bas-reliefs.
